I am deeply enthusiastic about the Danish brand Østerland for several VERY good reasons: Firstly, the design is incredibly beautiful. And secondly, it is simply a wonderful and very important initiative.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Østerland was founded with the ambition to support local craftsmanship in the Middle East and Central Asia and connect it with the global market. These are two regions that have been marked by war and conflicts and still face great and difficult challenges on many fronts. But they are also areas full of history with beautiful handicrafts and rich and proud traditions in art and craft. Østerland shows us and supports exactly that through partnerships with small businesses, organizations, and social enterprises in the regions.

THE SILK CUSHIONS

A good example is the colourful cushions woven by Syrian women who have fled their homeland to Turkey. Østerland has been responsible for the design, and the beautiful handwoven silk sheen blends so well with other fine fabric qualities, while the colours remind us of tales and warmth.
